Typed Therapy

Type back and forth with your therapist, like a text conversation. Sessions last from 40-60 minutes.

If you struggle to open up about your feelings in person, typed may be a good option. There's zero face-to-face contact, so not need to verbalise difficult emotions in front of someone.

Your conversation will not be overheard as sessions are written not spoken. You do not need to worry about your spelling or having to type fast.

No travel required; sessions can take place anywhere that you feel most comfortable, as long as you have an internet connection.

Access past typed therapy sessions and activities on your account, even after you've finished therapy.

Video Therapy

Your therapist can screen share for in-session collaboration. Sessions last for 60 minutes.

Speak to your therapist via a video call so that you can see each other’s reactions and take in visual cues.

Patients have control of voice differentiation capabilities, which is suitable if you have accessibility requirements.

No travel required; sessions can take place anywhere that you have an internet connection and a quiet space to speak with your therapist.

Listen back to audio recorded transcripts, so you can revisit your therapy for reinforced learning.

What people say

We’ve helped thousands of people feel better.

Here are their stories of recovery and growth.

I felt comfortable taking with my therapist. The homework I had made sense, and it did help... and it continues to help. We explored my past, and I became more aware of my triggers and began to analyse my fears more productively.

Kirsteen

The weekly sessions were structured and focused. The exercises really helped me understand how my brain was working in a negative way. I was able to think through the sessions with
no pressure.

Dilsher

I found joining sessions on my phone simple and easy. It also allowed me to work therapy around my life, as you can pick a suitable day and time for you.

Carys

The activities helped me to understand the cycle I was in and gave me the skills to learn how to get out of that cycle.

Stephen

Everything was carried out with the utmost professionalism. My therapist was kind, patient and at no point did I feel uncomfortable explaining my situation.

Jessica

Typed therapy worked well for me. I could arrange the sessions at a time that suited me. I felt at ease in my own home so was able to be open and honest without feeling judged

People often ask us...

It’s natural to have an interest in your treatment. People often want to know what we do, how it works and whether it will work for them. Here’s our take on some of the questions we often come across.

What is the difference between online and face-to-face therapy?

Online typed CBT is exactly the same as face-to-face CBT, other than that the conversation is typed on your computer. You’re still in a one-to-one conversation with a fully qualified clinician, usually for 60 minutes. The only difference is that you type your responses.

Is online typed CBT as good as face-to-face therapy?

Evidence shows that people recover just as well through online typed CBT. There are several reasons for this, including: starting treatment sooner; feeling able to express their thoughts more clearly through typing; feeling more comfortable having therapy discreetly and at their location of choice; and being able to re-read the conversation from the appointments with their clinician at any time.

Will I lose my place on the waiting list?

If you choose online therapy, it will be offered instead of face-to-face therapy. Once you start treatment, you would no longer have a place on the longer waiting list.

Who provides the therapy?

Typed and video services are delivered by ieso, the UK’s leading provider of online, one-to-one CBT to the NHS.

If I choose online therapy, how soon can I be in treatment?

Once you have opted in for online therapy, ieso will send you an SMS with a link to book your first appointment. Please also keep an eye out for an email to activate your dedicated ieso therapy account. You will have two weeks to book your first appointment.

Will my appointment be the same time every week?

You can schedule your appointments flexibly at times that best suit you, including evenings and weekends.

Will I have the same clinician for every appointment?

Yes, you will continue to receive therapy from the same dedicated clinician until you finish your treatment with ieso.

If I choose to wait for face-to-face therapy, how long will my wait be?

The wait for face-to-face therapy is roughly XX months from your referral date.

If you prefer to wait for face-to-face treatment, we anticipate your wait will be approximately XXXX further months from the date of this letter.

I have a few more questions to ask, who can I talk to?

ieso’s patient services team are happy to discuss any aspect of online therapy with you. Please call ieso on 0800 074 5560 (9am – 5.30pm weekdays).
